Yardstick

Our first daylily to bloom frames Elise on June 25, 2009. Now the lilies have bloomed in profusion.

Somebody asked me how our yard project was going, so here's a shot of it today:

I've heard lots of people say they'd rather have lawns than flower beds, for the seemingly favorable trade in effort. Sure I've spent a lot of time puttering as I've planted, but I hardly ever weed and spend even less time watering. Most of our front yard is filled with water-wise perennials that will reward our efforts for years to come. (I hope!) Now, just don't ask me how the laundry is going.

I love this color combination of the red-orange/yellow gaillardia in the foreground and lavender in the back.
